Runway: Thakoon SS12
Only a collection this exquisitely cool could be held at the Plaza's ballroom. Thakoon Panichgul used the multi-color-splashed-hair to add to the ethnically modern vibe of his collection, which consisted of embroidery, bright intricate paisleys, vibrant fedora-inspired hats, embellished collars, bright blue against a black doily vest, and ample modern simplicity with black, white and camel silhouettes.

Runway: Rag & Bone SS12
It's impossible for me to go without a piece (or ten) from Rag & Bone in my wardrobe every season, so naturally I never miss David Neville and Marcus Wainwright's show at fashion week (not literally... because I wasn't at the show.... if I was I would surely die of excitement... but figuratively, as in occupying my entire day after the show of sifting through photos and videos).
The shows are always fascinating and unbelievably unique, in all sense of the word. The duo's style has evolved so much but still remains true to their original vow of creating clothing that they and their friends would love to wear day in and day out. They are living proof that formal fashion training is not necessary when you have a gift, a vibe, and a realistic sense of style. These are two of my biggest inspirations in the fashion industry in that you can never assume what they'll come up with next, but it is always fantastic.
The S/S 2012 show was, as always, unique but so totally wearable. It left me yearning for Spring when Summer just ended. This show was warm-weather-tastic, with bright techno blues and oranges, army greens, raspberry prints, crisp modern whites, geometric patterns mixed with menswear blazers, sheer fabrics, crocheted knits, 90s-inspired chokers, and goggle-inspired shades, for the chicest of swimmers.

Runway: Alexander Wang SS12
Alexander Wang's S/S 2012 collection was riveting. When I had a chance to sit down and watch it in its entirety, I was blown away. Complete with just-showered hair, minimal makeup, and Wang's traditional effortless sporty vibe and ample zippers, nothing could possibly distract me from this show. I was swooning over the black and white laser-cut floral and phenomenal mirrored display. From grommet-ed jackets, cutout skirts, knee-length leather shorts, sheer surfer-inspired tunics, mesh ensembles, and an enthusiastic Alex running out in his all black sneakered uniform, the show was incomparable. I loved that he took a simple, sleek burgundy leather minidress and personalized it with the intricate tribal cutout detail that was only obvious after viewing a close-up photo. The cherry on top is Alex's niece, who couldn't be more obviously related to a fashion guru:

D-I-Y dinner party
I want to host a get-together for my four best girl friends, but I refuse to do the same old routine dinner party: guests arrive, mingle over drinks and appetizers as I hibernate in the kitchen, slaving away oer the stovetop. Not only am I stressed out and unable to enjoy the food and converse with my pals, defeating the purpose of inviting them over in the first place, but the heat of the stove and general rigmarole leaves my hair and makeup all but what I originated with. Then it came to me. A stress free solution: the do-it-yourself dinner party.
It all started with the invitations, which I made myself out of black card paper, adhesive sequins, and a metallic marker. The RSVP portion of the invites is D-I-Y for the guests, with supplies (red card, ample sequins, a bow, stickers, and a marker) included.
Place settings at a ladies dinner party should be easy but still noticeable. Your finest crystal is beyond unnecessary, yet standard round paper plates and napkins are sub par. At Target, I found simple black modern squared dinner and appetizer plates and vivified them with these humorous "personal listing" napkins, which conveniently coordinated with my invitations. Plastic wine glasses and silverwear, on the other hand, are a no-go - they always look cheap unless you're at an outdoor picnic. Plus, silverwear and glasses are easy to clean or throw in the dishwaster post-party. I placed my plates and napkins with stemless wine glasses and silverwear, with sleek wipeable placemats underneath because, as you can tell, it's all about being practical yet still swank.
Now for the food: the hors d'oeuvre is a dip bar with cracked pepper toasts, roasted red pepper dip, olive tapenade, and portabella mushroom dip. Each is easy to prepare if you own a food processor (the tapenade is as simple as combining olive oil, kalamata olives, capers, salt, pepper, and garlic), but also just as easy to buy and set up yourself: no one will know the difference and it will save you some time. The main course is D-I-Y Mediterranean personal pizzas - so fun, easy, delicious, and not to mention healthy, which an important consideration in your menu. In multicolored serving bowls, I arranged the whole wheat crusts, hummus (the tomato sauce substitute), roasted peppers, sliced tomatoes, feta cheese, artichoke hearts, and olives. This was a practical way to get everyone involved and avoid having to dole out recipes! In tandem with the D-I-Y theme and Mediterranean entree, I planned D-I-Y fruit kebabs for dessert. I bought an assortment of fruit, cut it into various cubes, and placed them in a compartmentalized serving bowl alongside wooden skewers.
As a hostess, I want my outfit to be comfortable and charming simultaneously, but never too casual. A belted skirt and semi-sheer blouse (which is appropriate for evening) with booties and a statement necklace was the answer. The booties are fantastic because they are a bearable heel to host in. Since you're working with food, a cocktail ring or armwear is usually prohibiting. A great necklace can stay on without getting in the way, and this one can be layered as many times as needed. I always love a good mixed-metal necklace because they go with everything, day to night. Remember that you always get more mileage out of a piece when it is more transitional. I left my hair simple and blow-dried, with equally simple but elegant makeup. Starting with the eyes, I used a grey and pale pink palette (Cannage in Dawn Grey by Christian Dior) with the silver shade as the base, the pink for the lid, the charcoal for the contour, and the black along the lash lines, atop my waterproof liner (Espresso by Chanel). With two layers of Nars 'Larger Than Life' mascara in black, I swiped Revlon's 'Blushing Berry' on my cheeks and a fuschia lip color (Pink Sapphire by Lancome) to match it. With makeup for this dinner party, it's important to be realistic with time but to have fun, which the few products and hot pink lip color provide. Finally, I sprayed the new Fendi scent on, Fan di Fendi: with its base note of leather, it easily compliments my ensemble!
Skirt, Blouse, and Belt: The Kooples, Necklace: Intermix, Booties: Rag & Bone
Now, for the dessert after the dessert, the party favors: D-I-Y necklaces, of course! Beads, chains, and clasps are available at craft stores such as Michaels, or it's fun to buy interested necklaces at F21 or Target and disassemble them for additional props. At a nearby table, I set up the supplies and had the girls make as they desired. The results were so different and wonderful. They each took home a keepsake for them to wear and always remember how much fun we had - the chicest friendship necklaces around!
Monday
day to night: denim in all its forms
Denim prides itself on never going out of style. It is seasonally ever-present in every imaginable form: jacket, handbag, dress, shirt, pant, short, skirt, you name it. What I love about denim nowadays is its ability to go from day to night instantaneously. I took my denim dress, pants, and shirt to show how small outfitting changes can create two very different looks.
Great for travel, the dress is the easiest to take from casual to dressed up. All that was necessary was a shoe and jewelry change. I went from motorcycle boots and a handmade metal charm necklace in the daytime to cutout leather heels and a layerable mixed metal chain necklace at night.
Day: Denim Dress: F21, Boots: Fiorentini and Baker
Night: Layerable Necklace: Intermix, Cutout Heels: F21
Jeans come in so many washes now that its a little overwhelming. The grey wash is a staple of mine, especially in this extremely light shade that J Brand deems 'Mercury.' Though all shades of denim can be dressed up and down, this is the easiest. Worn casually with shades, sneakers and an ombre scarf, I threw on this semi-sheer blouse, booties, and a statement ring to take it out.
Day: Jeans: J Brand, Sneakers: Ash, Button Up Blouse: Vince, Scarf: Isabel Marant, Sunglasses: Celine
Night: Booties: Rag & Bone, Blouse: IRO, Cocktail Ring: Tre
The denim shirt isn't a piece you'd normally consider dressing up, but it really goes a long way and makes for such a cool, effortless look. In tandem with the recent trend of wearing denim with denim (which I thought would never surpass the first grade), I tucked the blouse into my belted light denim shorts and slipped into a pair of chunky wooden clogs. To balance out the cowboy-esque ensemble, I wore my Tom Ford Nikita (extreme) cat-eyes. Later in the day, I kept the shoes on, but swapped the shorts for a black bandage skirt. I took a sheer kain tee and tucked into into the skirt, unbuttoned the denim blouse and threw it on top, like a jacket. A mixed metal bracelet is enough jewelry for this outfit, and the gold in it ties into the gold studs on the clog.
Day: Denim Shirt: Winkt, Belt: Vintage, Shorts: 7 For All Mankind, Clogs: Andre (Paris), Cuff: Hermes, Sunglasses: Tom Ford
Night: Skirt: Pleasure Doing Business, Tank: Kain, Bracelet: Giles and Brother
Saturday
day to night: leather shorts
Leather in any form always performs day to night, season to season (except perhaps in the middle of August). One piece in particular, tailored leather shorts, can go from coffee to cocktails (or lunch to dinner) in 0-60.
For real, I changed in 0-60 seconds.
In the daytime, the shorts just need a great white oversized pocket tee. Mine is by Thakoon, and features an asymmetrical pocket and braided seam along the front. It adds just a hint of detail to an otherwise plain top. With booties, a great carryall, and equally large shades, all thats necessary is some coral lipstick (for some color) and armwear. I took a basic silver necklace as well as a silver chain necklace and twisted them together around my arm to create a loose, chunky mixed bracelet. I love when watches, bangles, and bracelets are looser and can move - too tight is an uncomfortable look in more ways than one.
Shirt: Thakoon, Leather Shorts: F21 (Yes!), Booties: Rag & Bone, Bucket Bag: Alexander Wang, Sunglasses: Chloe.
To switch the look for night, I immediately went from coral lipstick to a deep red (Clinique's 'A Different Grape'). Pink, red, coral and burgundy lip colors give completely different vibes and produce equally different looks. I obviously love them all the same.
I replaced the oversized tee with a body-conscious camisole, tucked into the shorts. From that I threw on a light grey blazer and traded the bucket bag for a small cross-body. Rather than armwear, I don a collar necklace for a more sophisticated look. This one, a whopping $5 from F21, originally had more silver, smaller beads, but to make sure it didn't look what it cost, I removed them and left it with just the collar. Its so easy to make jewelry your own by adding or removing when it's an inexpensive piece.

Entirely Worth it: Tom Ford Nikita Cat Eye Sunglasses
These exaggerated frames add instant glam to any ensemble. A classic shape with a modern twist, these can be dressed up and down, summer to winter, spring to fall. They fall in all categories (they sold out at Barney's for a good reason). I am beyond excited to wear them. I would glue them to my face if I could.
sweatshirt: 3.1 Phillip Lim
I'm only kidding. He's one stylish wolf, though. With one set of extremely well protected eyes.
Wednesday
newfound deal: tartan skirt
With fall 2011 comes the return of red, black and green plaid, especially in schoolgirl skirts and trousers, but also in coats and blazers. I fell for the Opening Ceremony skirt, immediately imagining it with my Rag & Bone Newbury booties, a chunky knit, and opaque tights when the weather permits. Charming as it is, I wasn't too keen on spending $400 on the skirt. Unfortunately this meant I was on a mission to find a similarly adorable celtic plaid piece. All's well that ends well, my friends: printed woolen perfection under $20.
You are welcome.
Can you tell I'm excited? That's what newfound deals do to me.
The skirt is so easy to build upon. Whether its paired with a pullover knit, an oversized one, a blazer, vest, leather jacket, ladylike jacket, or tucked in blouse, with flats or heels, tights or bare legs, the options are endless. So endless that I just formed the runniest of a run-on sentence. All in all, this piece is charming and wonderfully versatile.
Tartan Skirt: F21, Booties: Rag & Bone, Sweater: Theory, Bowler Hat: F21, Chain Necklace: Free People, Gold Pendant Necklace: My Grandmother's.
Tuesday
Newfound deal: cuffed
I was perusing the web one day minding my own business when I came across those over-$150 Ana Cuff at Free People. This screamed music festival style, I thought, or just plain cute silver armwear. But there's gotta be a way to get this cuff without spending that much, I also thought.
How does $4.80 sound?
I wasn't about to wear anything over-priced to lollapalooza, where it was more than likely to fall off or get re-decorated in mud. More detailed than a standard cuff, the metal is layered and can be adjusted to sit either on the wrist or the upper arm. Get the duplicate here.

three(+) ways to wear it: the McQueen skull scarf
The late great Alexander McQueen was able to make the bony structure on the head of both humans and animals elegant and trendy. His skull scarves are paradoxically beautiful and eerie with the haunting image adorned atop luxurious silk. The scarf adds spark to any outfit: a simple tee and jeans is instantaneously "rocker chic," if you will. The scarf comes in a generous selection of colors, mine in particular is black with multi-colored, translucent-and-almost-glowing skulls.
Here are a few of the myriad ways to wear it:
1) Belt it. Loosely tied, not in a bow. You most likely don't want to channel Minnie Mouse around your waist.
Tee: Kain, Shorts: J Brand, Oxfords: Steve Madden, Sunglasses: Celine, Bracelets: Chan Luu and Hermes
2) As its intended purpose. Like any other silk chiffon scarf, there are multiple ways to throw it on: around the neck, looped, tied, so on and so forth.
Bag: YSL
3) As a headscarf.
4. To accessorize your bag. Whether you tie it around the strap to add to a basic bag or put it there for storage purposes, its not a bad look!
