day to night: denim in all its forms

Denim prides itself on never going out of style. It is seasonally ever-present in every imaginable form: jacket, handbag, dress, shirt, pant, short, skirt, you name it. What I love about denim nowadays is its ability to go from day to night instantaneously. I took my denim dress, pants, and shirt to show how small outfitting changes can create two very different looks.

Great for travel, the dress is the easiest to take from casual to dressed up. All that was necessary was a shoe and jewelry change. I went from motorcycle boots and a handmade metal charm necklace in the daytime to cutout leather heels and a layerable mixed metal chain necklace at night.
Day: Denim Dress: F21, Boots: Fiorentini and Baker
Night: Layerable Necklace: Intermix, Cutout Heels: F21

Jeans come in so many washes now that its a little overwhelming. The grey wash is a staple of mine, especially in this extremely light shade that J Brand deems 'Mercury.' Though all shades of denim can be dressed up and down, this is the easiest. Worn casually with shades, sneakers and an ombre scarf, I threw on this semi-sheer blouse, booties, and a statement ring to take it out.

Night: Booties: Rag & Bone, Blouse: IRO, Cocktail Ring: Tre

The denim shirt isn't a piece you'd normally consider dressing up, but it really goes a long way and makes for such a cool, effortless look. In tandem with the recent trend of wearing denim with denim (which I thought would never surpass the first grade), I tucked the blouse into my belted light denim shorts and slipped into a pair of chunky wooden clogs. To balance out the cowboy-esque ensemble, I wore my Tom Ford Nikita (extreme) cat-eyes. Later in the day, I kept the shoes on, but swapped the shorts for a black bandage skirt. I took a sheer kain tee and tucked into into the skirt, unbuttoned the denim blouse and threw it on top, like a jacket. A mixed metal bracelet is enough jewelry for this outfit, and the gold in it ties into the gold studs on the clog.
Day: Denim Shirt: Winkt, Belt: Vintage, Shorts: 7 For All Mankind, Clogs: Andre (Paris), Cuff: Hermes, Sunglasses: Tom Ford
Night: Skirt: Pleasure Doing Business, Tank: Kain, Bracelet: Giles and Brother
